"It was really turbulent at Lake Julian, but its also a much smaller lake. I am interested in the 8.5 m Retro - could be good for lighter wind days. Thanks"

"Thanks Jose, will give it a try sometime. If you know anyone selling some 8.0m sails let me know I need to buy something more current than my 90's quiver."

"Hi Hudson! It is good! Specially for winds coming from W, N or NW. I recommend the following launching places: 1) Hwy 126 Boat landing (Linville Gorge). There is a little beach in the North side. 2) At the end of the road of Rock Hill St (Lake James…"

"Jose, Whats Lake James like to sail - that seems to be the best location within an hour of Asheville."

"Hudson: Thats a good board.  I've had two or more, lost count... Its 238 liter, the Equipe II is 258 liter.  At 200lbs, thats a big difference..  Both raceboards I am flirting with selling (links below), are admittedly high…"

"Equipe 1  - Race - Fun on flat water. Not so good on the ocean. Send me a link to your Craigslist ad - would prefer to buy from local sailors. I guess a newer 9.5m will uphaul about as easy as my old 7.5m ? "

"Hudson: 200lbs,  I suggest you need 9.5 to give you the most range of sailing  around on Equipe (is its Equipe 1 or 2?). That would cover just about 95% of the sailing days we have here inland.  8.5 would be too small once you were…"

"Hi Hudson, No doubt! Newer sails have a huge range. You trim them from the downhaul, more tension means looser top for higher winds. 8.5 is a good size for the winds we have here (Lake Norman and Lake James). I sailed on several equipe boards, love…"

"Thats what I'm finding a used carbon mast is almost as much as a sail. I was checking into a used  Maui Sails 8.4 TR8 XT 2013 USED SAIL ,  it seems as if sails have a bigger wind range range these days, previously a 6.5m was the…"

" Hey Hudson, I may have a used carbon mast, about 490 or 500 ? that may be compatible with your 7.5, I'll check. Booms have also gotten a lot lighter recently, but new carbon booms are hi $$?   "

"Hudson, Inwould definitely get a mast that fits the sail's specs. It makes a world of difference in how the sail feels & performs. Carbon fiber or blend mast is much lighter, stiffer, and performs better than the old aluminum masts."

Ok so I was fortunate to windsurf in the Dom. Republic this winter and rekindled my love for the sport. Now I am back in Asheville and want to sail more on the local lake. I took my Mistral Equipe out Saturday and had a great time blasting in the gusts on a sunny 7 - 20 knot day. My sail is a 7.5m cambered sail from 1991 and the thing weighs so much when i try to up haul. I also have a one-piece 495cm aluminium mast. I am keen to spend some cash on a used sail to increase the power and save my…See More
