I don't know of a public access launch that has a good fetch for N/E on Lake Norman. My suggestion would be the picnic area  @ Badin it has 5 mi. clear fetch. It's an hour E of Charlotte. (there's a map & directions on the IBSCC slide show)

Good info, trying to stay within 2 hr drive of Asheville.....  5 mile fetch is luring though!

best public access for NE wind on Lake Norman is on the west side of the lake in Denver.  Beattys Ford Park at the end of Unity Church Road.  Nice grassy rigging area.  You'll have to walk your gear around the left point to the wind line, but once at the wind line, there is a long fetch to the NE.  Can be very good on windy NE days with big wind swell...almost "Gorge" like.

Have you sailed Beatties since they added the fence out into the lake at the development on the point? A few years ago I swam my stuff around around the fence & was confronted by a security guard, I was waist deep at the point. he told me I better not come back.

Sounds like Sunday will be the day! I will try to hit Badin.

I would have told that security guard to stuff it and that he has no jurisdiction over the lake.

The guard was pack'n a 9mm & didn't seem like he was in a mood to discuss jurisdiction issues, tak'n a 5.2 to a gunfight  didn't seem like a great idea. I did waterstart & get a pretty good session in before swimming it back in.

Worth filing a complaint over with the real law?

A wildlife officer (who has since become a paddling buddy) told me as stupid & wrong as he was, if he didn't pull & aim the gun it probably wasn't illegal. I've fought hard for access to surfing, hang gliding, rock climbing, river running even kiteboarding & windsurfing on Badin Lake. With LKN being as private access oriented as it is, looked a hard fight with little chance of a  helpful result? Back to Badin.
